Hand hygiene: practice the sequence and the reason

Use this as a general learning checklist. It is not an official state skills-evaluation script, and it does not label exam-critical steps. Your current candidate handbook controls.

Coverage boundary

Step order, timing language, evaluator prompts, and critical-step treatment can vary. CNA Drill will publish an exam-specific card only after the exact state/provider pathway, handbook edition, and reviewer are recorded.

General learning sequence

  1. Prepare. Keep clothing and clean supplies from contacting contaminated surfaces.
  2. Wet hands and apply soap.
  3. Create friction across all surfaces. Include backs of hands, between fingers, fingertips, and around nails.
  4. Rinse and dry.
  5. Avoid recontaminating clean hands. Follow the facility or evaluation procedure for handling the faucet and towel.

Evaluator practice

Hide the cues. Perform the sequence using your approved training setup. Mark only actions someone else could observe, then compare with the current handbook and instructor feedback.
